Temperatures are rising, and you can feel it during your workday as well. That’s why it’s extra important to take good care of yourself. In this blog, we give you practical tips to stay fresh, alert, and comfortable while working in warm weather. Small adjustments make a big difference.

Sunny days are nice… until you have to work for hours in the heat. Whether you’re on a construction site, moving around in a warehouse, or spending a lot of time outdoors, high temperatures require a bit more care for yourself. Here are some smart tips to keep things pleasant and safe.

1. Drink enough

Dry mouth? That means you’re already too late. Try to drink some water every half hour, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Tip: always keep a bottle nearby and set a timer on your phone if needed.

2. Work safely in the sun

In warm weather, it’s best to wear airy, light-colored clothing. Working outside? Protect yourself well against harmful UV rays. Wear a cap, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen thoroughly. Regularly seek shade and avoid dark fabrics, as they trap heat.

3. Schedule your heaviest work at the right time

Heavy physical exertion, like lifting, digging, or moving, is best done in the morning, especially when working outdoors. In the afternoon, the air is often heavier due to higher ozone levels. These efforts can lead to complaints such as headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath. If you can organize your own day, try to schedule lighter tasks later in the day.

4. Take regular breaks

On hot days, take short breaks regularly. This helps you stay fresh and perform better. Choose a spot in the shade or indoors, where it’s usually cooler, for your break. If you feel it’s getting too hot, discuss it with your supervisor. There might be room to adjust the work rhythm or take a break from the sun.

5. Keep your lunch light, too

On warm days, your body already works hard to cool down. A heavy, fatty meal full of carbohydrates—like fries, pizza, or a large portion of pasta—will only make you more tired. Instead, go for something light and nutritious. Choose a fresh salad, yogurt, fruit, or whole-grain products. This gives your body the right energy without extra burden.

6. Not feeling well? Take it seriously

Dizziness, headache, or nausea? Don’t wait for it to get worse. Stop, drink some water, and move to a cooler place. Inform a supervisor if it persists.

The sun can be strong, but with a few smart choices, you stay sharp and keep your energy up.
